1.14. Historical background-English Act.-

In England, the first interpretation Act, known as Lord Brougham's Act, was passed as far back as 1850. In 1889, the Act was replaced by the Interpretation Act. This Act is the source of subsequent Interpretation Acts, not only in England, but also in other countries of the Commonwealth.
