5.2. Austria.-

Constitutional Courts exist in a number of countries on the Continent. Alphabetically, one can begin with Austria.1 The Constitutional Court of Austria has a very wide jurisdiction. It not only decides constitutional issues, which are set out in detail in Austrian Constitution, but has, in addition, out interesting species of jurisdiction. The Constitution of Austria provides (in Article 145) as under:-

"145. The Constitutional Court (of Austria) shall pronounce judgment upon violations of International Law in accordance with the provisions of a special Federal Law".

The Constitutional Court in Austria consists of a President, a Vice-President, twelve other members and six "substitute" members.2
