Report No. 10 66. Service of notices and orders.- (1) Subject to the provisions of this sections and any rules that may be made under this Act, the mode of service of notices and orders issued or made under this Act shall, except as otherwise provided in this Act, be as follows:- (a) a notice or order of a general nature on affecting a class of persons shall be published? (i) in the Official Gazette, or in newspapers in the language of the district in which the land concerned is situate, and (ii) by affixing copies of such notice or order in prominent places on or near the land concerned; (b) a notice or order affecting an individual corporation or firm shall be served in the manner provided for the service of summons in Rule 2 of Order XXIX or Rule 3 of Order XXX, as the case may be, in the First Schedule of the Code of Civil Procedure, 1908 (5 of 1908); and (c) a notice or order affecting an individual person, (not being a corporation or firm), shall be served in the manner provided for the service of summons by the Code of Civil Procedure, 1908 (5 of 1908), or by sending it by registered post in a letter addressed to the person named therein at his last known residence, address or place of business. [Section 15(1), R.A.] (2) Where the ownership of the land is in dispute or where the persons interested in the land are not readily traceable and the notice or order cannot be served without undue delay, the notice or order may be served by publishing it in the Official Gazette, and, where possible, by affixing a copy thereof on any conspicuous part of the land to which it relates.
