The Joint-stock Companies Act, 1857

LIX. Meaning of the expression "the Court" as used in Part III of the Act.-

The expression "the Court," as used in the Third Part of this Act, shall mean the principal Court having original Civil jurisdiction in the place in which the registered Office of the Company is situate ; unless in the regulations for the management of the Company it shall be stipulated that the said Company, if wound-up shall be wound-up by the Supreme Court of Judicature for the Presidency in which the registered Office of the Company is situate, or, if the registered Office is not situate within any Presidency or in the Settlement of Prince of Wales' Island, Singapore, and Malacca, that it shall be wound-up by such Supreme Court as shall be stipulated by such regulations, in either of which cases the word "Court" shall mean the Supreme Court of Judicature mentioned in such stipulation.
