Co-Operative Societies Act 2008 Part XVI Offences 218. Corrupt practices and bribery 1. Where- a. any member, agent or employee of a society corruptly accepts, agrees to accept, obtains or attempts to obtain whether for himself or another, any gift or consideration as an inducement or reward for- i. doing or forbearing to do any act relating to the business of the society; or ii. for showing favour or disfavour to any person in relation to the business of the society; or a. b. any person corruptly gives, agrees to give, or offers such gift or consideration to any member, agent or employee of a society as inducement or reward for any purpose mentioned in paragraph (a) , he is guilty of an offence and is liable- i. in the case of an offence under paragraph (a) , on summary conviction to a fine of $2,000 or to imprisonment for 2 years or both such fine and imprisonment and on indictment to imprisonment for 3 years; ii. in the case of an offence under paragraph (b) , on indictment to imprisonment for 5 years. 2. In this section “consideration” includes valuable consideration of any kind.    |
