The College, an institution of Indian Centre for Advancement of Research and Education (ICARE) is affiliated to Vidyasagar University and approved by the Bar Council of India. The main object of establishing HLC is to produce new generation lawyers by providing quality legal education through innovative pedagogic technique.

A candidate aspiring to appear in the All India admission Test for taking admission into the Five-Year B.A. LL.B. (Hons) Course of the college is required to have qualified the Higher secondary (10+2) or its equivalent with 45 % marks for general candidate and 40% marks for SC/ST/OBC candidate in aggregate.
A candidate who has appeared in Higher Secondary Examination (10+2) or its equivalent may also appear in the All India Admission test.
However, the admission of such candidate shall be cancelled if admission it appears that he / she failed to secure 45 % marks for general candidate and 40% marks for SC/ST/OBC candidate. |

The College is offering a Five-Year Integrated B.A.-L.L.B.(Hons.) Course and a Three-Year L.L.B. Course. A student of Five-Year Integrated B.A.-L.L.B.(Hons.) Course during the course of his/her studies at the College is exposed to sixty different branches of law and whereas a student of Three-Year Course takes thirty-six subjects.
The highly innovative curriculum followed by the college not only adheres to the recommendations of the Bar Council of India but it includes papers which go well with the ground reality of Haldia like, Marine Environment and Law, Port Management and Law.
